A pedigree pet firm in Spalding is looking for homes that can give canines their very own Valentine experience.

Business is booming for Barking Mad and owner Kerry Wells (50) who has gone from nothing to having about 270 dogs on her books in just over six years.

Kerry and her staff, Cherylyn Marriner and John Watson, arrange for dogs to stay with specially matched host families for short or longer breaks when their owners go on holiday.

The firm’s popularity is such that dogs from Boston, Peterborough and Stamford are catered for by the match-making service for mutts and Kerry is now keen to hear from potential host families who can give her hounds some tender loving care.

She said: “I currently have 23 host families on my books, predominantly retired people who keep the dogs while their owners go on holiday with peace of mind.

“The hosts get round-the-clock support from us and we’ve been really lucky so far in matching dogs’ personalities to their hosts.”

Barking Mad is an alternative to sending dogs to kennels and also offers people a chance of using their canine handling skills, without the reponsibility of full-time pet ownership.

Kerry said: “From small beginnings, we’ve grown tremendously and we’re at the stage now where we could do with a few more hosts to get on board.”
