From Crowland to Whaplode Drove
BECAUSE the bus timetable has been changed, the Crowland Walking for Health group has had to change the start time for their walk on a Wednesday back to 10.45am. Meet at the library before that to sign in, then walk for about an hour. There are light refreshments, supplied by Crowland Cares, for just £1, on return. Just turn up, you’ll be made very welcome.
CROWLAND CARES’ next coffee morning will be held on Friday, December 5, 10am-noon in the library in Hall Street. There will be a raffle and tombola. The choir from South View Community Primary School will be in attendance to sing Christmas carols. Complimentary tea, coffee and mince pies will be served. St Peter and St Paul’s Christmas Tree Festival with craft and Christmas stalls begins on Saturday and a preview to this will be held on Friday at 7pm. The preview consists of the switch on of the lights, Christmas music and refreshments. Entrance is £5. The Christmas tree festival then continues on Saturday and Sunday and the following two weekends, 11am to 5pm, including craft stalls, Christmas fayre, bric-a-brac and bottle stall. The church is looking for volunteers to help with this event, both manning stalls and refreshments and also baking. At 2pm on Saturday there will be the Light Ships presentation by Transported and Francois Matarasso.
Gosberton Baptists are also having a Christmas tree festival alongside a Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 13 from 11am to 5pm. June Monk is organising the fair with craft stalls, tombola, raffle and refreshments and Christmas music. Any gifts for the stalls would be welcomed and can be handed in to Mrs Monk.
Gosberton Churches Together community carol service is in St Peter and St Paul’s church on Sunday at 4pm and will feature the three local schools.
On Saturday, December 6 the Banovallum Brass Band will give a Christmas concert in St Margaret’s church hall, Quadring for the Gosberton and district branch of the Royal British Legion. Quadring school choir will take part. Tickets are £6 from Gene Waterfall on 01775 750491 or from Debbie Reynolds on 01775 841585 or at the door. Donations of raffle prizes will be welcome.
GOSBERTON CLOUGH AND RISEGATE
Gosberton Risegate methodist church is having a Christmas fair on Saturday at 1.30pm with the usual stalls and competitions and a tombola.
Holbeach branch of RAFA held their bi-monthly meeting at Holbeach United Services Club, Holbeach . The meeting was opened by Mr B Storey who welcomed everyone. The dedication was read by Sq/Ldr C Laurence, branch secretary. A minute’s silence was held following the passing away of ex-treasurer Mr G Barraclough. The chairman thanked everyone who helped with collections at Tesco and Budgeons, which resulted in nearly £1,500 being collected for the battle of Britain Wings Appeal. Preparations were made for the branch to present RAFA wall shields to Bill Payne and Harold Payne to say thank you for allowing the branch to collect at both premesis for many years on Saturday, December 13 at noon for 1-30 at Bill Payne’s. The branch will get together for a pre-Christmas lunch – all members welcome. The next meeting will be held at the United Services Club on January 13 at 7-30pm.
ROYAL British Legion women’s section Christmas social is on Monday, December 1, at 7pm in the RBL Hall, West Street. Entertainment, catering and raffle will feature along with a secret Santa wrapped present to the value of £3 and perhaps a visit from a special person. Guests cost £5.
LONG Sutton Baptist church hot lunches are on Friday November, 1130am to 1.30pm – all welcome.
THE Youth and Community Centre is hosting a fashon show by Lincs Fashions tonight from 7pm in Woodgate Road. Entry £2. All garments perfect, no seconds, top brand names.
A bingo in aid of Peterborough City Hospital breast cancer unit is tomorrow in the youth and community centre. Doors open at 6pm for eyes down at 7pm .The bingo in Octotober (the pink night)raised £816. Please bring a raffle or bingo prize. There isnt a bingo in December.
A CHRISTMAS Fayre and coffee morning will be held at the Methodist Church on Saturday from 10am to 12.30pm. Delicious turkey rolls, coffee and hot soup will be served.

Chain Bridge Forge of High Street, Spalding, will be demonstrating the Blacksmith’s art on their portable forge at Unique Cottage Studios’ Christmas Craft Market on Saturday and Ayscoughfee Hall’s Victorian Winter Fair on Sunday. Come along, meet the blacksmith and get some novel Christmas presents. If you can’t make these events the Forge is open Wednesdays and Fridays 10am until 2pm and the first Sunday of the month 11am to 3pm.
THE next meeting of the South Holland History Club is on Friday at 7.30pm in St John’s Church lounge, Hawthorne Bank.
Rodney Lines will give a talk on “The 100th anniversary of the (birth of) Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.” Admission £2, refreshments 50p. Everyone welcome.
Tomorrow is the next meeting of the West Pinchbeck Senior Club. It is to be a carol service with the help of the West Pinchbeck St Barthomews Primary School choir. To fit in with school hours the meeting will start at the earlier time of 1.30 p.m. at the village hall. Any Christmas cards which members want to be distributed to club members at the Christmas lunch can be put in the club’s postbox at this meeting. Bookings, and payment for the Christmas lunch which is the club’s final meeting of the year on December 17 will also be taken, along with food requirements.
A prize bingo will be held on Thursday at the Elizabethan Centre. Doors open 7pm, start time 7.30pm.
