A coach party of members and friends of the Gosberton Good Companion’s Club had lovely weather for the first outing of the season on Tuesday, to Stratford-upon-Avon. En route they called in Newark for morning coffee arriving in Stratford for lunch and the afternoon. The outing was organised by club chairman Les White.
THERE is a teapot service at the Methodist Church on Sunday at 4pm.
VOLUNTEERS are needed to help at St Peter and St Paul’s Church flower and craft festival, to staff the stalls, tombola, raffle and serve refreshments as well as baking for the cake stall and refreshments. The cost of ingredients will be reimbursed. The festival opens on Saturday until Monday, May 5. Free admission. Open from 10am to 5pm. Gosberton Clough and Risegate
MEMBERS of the Risegate Silver Link Club, to celebrate Easter, were treated to hot cross buns at their fortnightly meeting on Wednesday. Members played bingo with Tina Sandall as the caller. TO celebrate their 25th anniversary Holbeach and East Elloe Hospital Trust is having a 1940s themed event this Sunday, including a RAF memorial flight, craft stalls and a chance to listen to Holbeach Town Band.
SOUTH Holland Singers and the Lincolnshire Chamber Orchestra will perform Haydn’s ‘Creation’ at All Saints’ Church on Saturday at 7.30pm. All Saints’ Church flower festival, entitled ‘The wonderful world of colour’, starts this Saturday through to Monday, May 5, 10am-6pm daily. METHODIST Church is again holding its annual flower festival with the theme ‘wedding anniversaries’. You are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome to the church on Fen Gate, and entry is free. You will be able to see intriguing and colourful flower displays depicting milestone wedding anniversaries and light refreshments will be available. Books and cards for sale and tombola. There is disabled access and facilities. The festival is open every day from this Saturday until Monday, May 5. Opening times are Sundays, noon to 5pm, Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm. There is a Celebration Songs of Praise at 6pm this Sunday.
The village parade involving the local community is on Sunday, May 4, at 3pm with bands, floats and vintage vehicles.
ST James’ Church will be decorated from this Saturday until Monday, May 5. All are welcome to visit between the opening times of 10am to 5pm.
THE next No Frills community event at St Mary’s Church Hall, Rose Lane, is on Friday. Dancing starts at 7.45pm until 10.30pm with a short break for a performance by the Slapdash Appalachian dancers. The Beltona band provide the music and caller, Sue Gray, is there to help every step of the way. The emphasis is on having fun and everyone is welcome, no expertise required. Home made cakes are on sale for 50p. Tea and coffee are included in the entry fee which is £4 for adults, children under 16 are free. There is no bar so please bring your own drinks. SOUTH Holland Local History group meet on Friday at 7.30pm in St John’s Church Lounge, Hawthorn Bank. A talk with slides will be given by local author Keith Seaton, on the River Welland, boats and mariners. A donation of £2 is requested.
FLOWER festival, art exhibition and cafe at St Laurence Church from this Saturday until Monday, May 5. Open daily 10am-5pm. Home made cakes, marmalade, plants, crafts, fresh flowers and tombola. Willing helpers are asked to meet on the village hall car park at 10am. Children are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Equipment will be provided, but bring a pair of protective gloves. A member of South Holland District Council recycling support team will be in attendance to help and advise.
