SATURDAY Strollers will be walking around Thornhaugh on Saturday. Please wear clothing suitable for the weather conditions. Meet at the former St Guthlac School at 10.25am, and bring a picnic lunch.


ROYAL British legion will be holding a prize bingo at the Methodist Chapel at 7pm on Friday.


THE recent Fenland Flywheelers monthly meeting held at the United Services Club in Holbeach was well attended, and entertaining and informative when the subject was ‘The humble bean’, given by guest speaker Martin Dickinson, now retired from the processed food industry. He gave the background to the cultivation of the bean used in the baked bean processing and together with the aid of slides and video showed the planting of the seed to the end product along the various stages of production that featured both on the American continent and Ethiopia before coming to this country for processing and canning. The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 5.


THE Baptist Church winter season of Bible studies takes place tomorrow, January 22, 29 and February 5, from the book of Psalms, at 2pm.

COFFEE mornings are held every Tuesday at 10am at the Baptist Church.
FLEET Baptist Ladies meet on Tuesday, February 4, at 2pm, when Alan Porter will give a talk on ‘My life of auctioneering and cricket’.


GOSBERTON Baptists continue to support the Agapecare Food Bank and have a collecting tub in the vestibule.

Items suggested are UHT and dried milk, squash, pasta sauces, sponge pudding, custard and instant whip, cereals, jam, biscuits, instant mash potatoes and basic pot noodles.

THE Gosberton area has sent 107 shoe boxes in the operation Christmas Child Shoe Box Appeal to children in Swaziland. Thanks to all who supported the project, which will be repeated next year.

AT Holbeach Town Band’s annual meeting last week officers elected were chairman,Yvonne Butter; vice chairman, Les Hill; musical director, Mel Hopkin; secretary, Bev Davey; treasurer, Diane Parker; fundraiser, Adam Reece. The following trophies were awarded: the musical director’s trophy for achievement went to Thomas Judd-Cooper, the Jack Hopkin shield for the Victoria training band went to Diane Parker and the Cecil Cook trophy (chosen my band members) went to John Barrett


RACE night in the village hall is on Saturday, February 1, not February 8, as advertised last week. Tickets are on sale at £9, which includes a two course sausage and mash supper. No bar, bring your own drinks.

OVER 60s meeting is on Monday, February 3 at 7.30pm, in the village hall.


55 Club bingo this Friday is in the village hall, eyes down 7.30pm.
