From Crowland to Whaplode Drove


THE annual St Nicholas Craft and Food Fair at Crowland Abbey is on Saturday, 10am-3pm with crafts and locally produced food, and a background of live seasonal music provided by local artists. Light refreshments including mulled wine and mince pies. Admission 50p.

CROWLAND Methodist Chapel Network Group is holding an advent sale on Saturday, 10am-noon.

CROWLAND Abbey is presenting a Christmas concert by Paul Wheater (known as Yorkshire’s Jim Reeves) on Monday at 7.30pm. It will be a two hour concert for you to sing along or just sit back and relax and will include Christmas favourites, country classics and well-loved sacred songs. Tickets are £7 available from Crowland Cancer Shop or on the door.

WESLEY’s Wayfayrers meet on Tuesday at 11am for an hour of reflection, Bible study and hymns.

CROWLAND Methodist Chapel’s quarterly Lunch Club’s meal is on Sunday, December 9. Please let Liz Harper know if you will be attending on 01733 210660. The meal will be at 12.30pm after the morning service.


THE monthly Fenland Flywheelers meeting, on Wednesday, will have farmer Gary Naylor giving a talk on ‘Farming in South Lincolnshire’ illustrated with photographs of the various farms and events he has been to over many years. The event is held in the function suite of the United Services Club, Church Street, Holbeach. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Free admission and refreshments plus raffle; all are welcome.


CHRISTMAS fair will be held in the village hall this Saturday, 2-4pm. On offer will be gifts, cakes, fruit and veg, plants, soft toys, raffle, refreshments and a visit from Santa. Free admission.

Gosberton Clough and Risegate

GOSBERTON Relief in Need charity Christmas gifts will be given out at St Gilbert and St Hugh’s Church on Thursday, December 6, 2-3.30pm. All persons receiving the old age pension and living in the Gosberton and the Clough and Risegate parishes will qualify. Representatives may collect for anyone unable to attend but pension proof must be produced. These gifts must be collected between these hours, no exceptions will be made.

ST Gilbert and St Hugh’s Parish Church is having a coffee afternoon and Christmas get-together on December 13, 2-4pm.

MOBILE library will be in Gosberton Risegate today at the Five Bells, 1-1.30pm.


OASIS Club meets in All Saints’ Church on Saturday, December 8, 10-11.30am. This is a joint workshop with the Junior Church to prepare for the Christingle Service on December 9 in church at 3.30pm.


CHRISTMAS party bingo is on Tuesday in the village hall. There will be a free prize raffle, bubbly and mince pies. Doors open 7pm, eyes down 7.30pm.


CHRISTMAS Pop-In is on Saturday, noon-1.15pm in the church hall.

THERE is a Special Advent Carol Service on Sunday at 6.30pm in St Mary’s Church, followed by refreshments.

ON Saturday, December 8, there is a St Mary’s turkey and tinsel Christmas lunch, 12.30pm for 1pm in the church hall. Seating is limited to 80, so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. These are available, at £12.50, only from Graham Brooks, 01775 724765.

‘NIGHT of Miracles’, a costumed musical presentation of the Christmas Story in St Mary’s Church, Pinchbeck on Friday, December 14 at 7pm, performed by the church choir. Suitable for all ages. There will be a retiring collection.


BROAD Street Methodist Church is holding a Christmas tree festival and fayre on the next two Saturdays, 10am-3pm. There is a decorated church with donations for Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. The fayre, in the hall, will have various stalls, including crafts, cakes and plants and there will be a hamper raffle. Refreshments will be available. At 3pm on Sunday the Rev M Mwailu will lead a Blue Service of music and readings for the bereaved and anyone going through pain and sadness.

ST Thomas’s Road Methodist Church is holding its Christmas fayre/market on Saturday, 10am-noon. There will be crafts, gifts, cakes, fruit and vegetables, lucky dip, bric-a-brac and refreshments.

Weston Hills

MOBILE library is in the village hall car park on Wednesday, 10.30-11am.

CHRISTMAS bingo is on Saturday, December 8, 7pm, in the village hall.

CHRISTINGLE Service is on Sunday, December 9 at 9.15am, followed by refreshments and raffle, in St John’s Church.

West Pinchbeck

CHILDREN’S Society Christingle Service is on Sunday at St Bartholomew’s Church at 3pm. All proceeds from the service will go to the charity.

CHURCH Ladies meet in the village hall on Monday at the earlier time of 7pm to enjoy a buffet supper. Bring along something to share. All welcome.

NEXT Thursday Thirsty on a Thursday meet in St Bartholomew’s between 9.30am and 11am with a Eucharist Service at 10am. All welcome.

Whaplode Drove

ST John the Baptist Church will be open to visitors for the annual Christmas tree competition. This Saturday and next Saturday, December 8, the church will open from noon-4pm and on Sunday and December 9 it will be open from 1pm-4pm, when there will be 17 decorated trees to see. Non-alcoholic mulled wine and mince pies will be served for a small donation. The winners will be announced during the Carol Service on Sunday, December 16 (6.30pm), when certificates, prizes and engraved plate are awarded.
