Dirt track plan for Cowbit

A dirt track driving business could be on its way to farmland at Cowbit if planners give the go-ahead.

Robert Smith, from Market Deeping, is seeking to create the business on land next to the A16.

Proposed hours of opening are 10am-4pm seven days a week and planning documents show there will be three part-time employees.

Mr Smith, who isn’t yet commenting on the plans, has submitted a planning application to South Holland District Council.

In the application, he says: “We would like to start our own mud track business. The land would be used to build a dirt track using mud already located on the land.

“The track would have grass areas surrounding it and a couple of small mounds, again made from mud.

“The proposal is to have two areas of hardcore - one for a car parking area and small site office (non-permanent container) and one further down the field to stand a (non permanent) container upon.”

He says there are no houses in the “immediate vicinity” and as the buggies are quieter than cars - some 70decibels - he “cannot foresee this affecting ayone around us”.

The proposed hardcore areas are 12m x 25m and 13 x 3m and the application says those could be removed - and the mud mounds flattened - to return the site to arable land.

Cowbit Parish Council chairman Trevor Tyrrell gave a personal view, saying the site is “right next to a grass field that contains sheep and young lambs in the spring”.

He said: “That sort of thing won’t go down too well with livestock.”

Coun Tyrrell said the parish council is yet to form a view.
