A HOLBEACH couple made their diamond wedding anniversary a charitable one by sharing it with the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Geoffrey and June Gott, of Spalding Road, asked for donations to the charity instead of anniversary gifts.
It resulted in a £320 donation to BHF which Mr and Mrs Gott presented to Spalding and District BHF branch chairman Keith Woods.
Mr Gott said: “My father supported BHF for a long time and we have carried it on.”
The couple, both in their 80s, first met playing tennis at Holbeach Youth Club 62 years ago and were married at All Saints’ Church in August 1952.
They celebrated 60 years together with an open afternoon and family lunch with their two daughters, four grandchildren and friends.
Mr Gott said: “We’ve had our ups and downs like any couple, but it’s been a happy and wonderful relationship.”
He is a retired music teacher and horticultural sales representative, while Mrs Gott worked as an administrator at both Spalding High School and Sir John Gleed Boys’ School before retiring.
“The secrets to a long and happy marriage are tolerance, keep talking, keep laughing, work together and take the rough with the smooth,” Mr Gott said.
