The death was reported of Lance-corporal Clark of Deeping St James, killed in action at the front.

The 26-year-old belonged to the Leicestershire Regiment and was said to be an “all-round sportsman”.

Private Giles Laws of Long Sutton had also been killed while fighting at the front with the Northampton regiment.

He was the son of Mr and Mrs John Laws, of Seagate Terrace, and was the first Long Sutton soldier to be killed.
