BBC Radio Lincolnshire rolled up in Spalding today to put candidates hoping to be the next MP for South Holland and the Deepings through their paces.
A crowd of shoppers and party supporters gathered in Hall Place to watch John Hayes (Tory), Matthew Mahabadi (Labour), Dan Wilshire (Green Party, David Parsons (UKIP) and George Smid (LibDem) answer questions from the public that had been collected in an elections bin left in town yesterday.
Presenter Melvyn Prior quizzed the candidates on a range topics that are important to local residents, such as education, immigration, employment and policing.
After the show which went out live, he said: “We’ve had a really good morning. All the candidates turned up and the crowd were able to see them in action. Questions were what you would expect in Spalding - obviously immigration is a big issue here.
“Apart from a bit of heckling, it’s been a really good morning.”
The candidates will be in the spotlight again on Thursday for the Spalding Guardian Election 2015 Hustings, at the South Holland Centre. Anyone who has booked a seat but cannot attend is asked to please inform the booking office on 01775 764777 as there is a waiting list.
