Vandals hit village play area

Have your say

A CHILDREN’S play area in Sutton Bridge may have to be moved following repeated attacks by vandals who have ripped out fence posts and supports from a picket fence.

The play area is in a hidden corner of the Memorial Park and parish councillors say it’s just too easy for vandals to wreck the place unseen.

Parish council chairman John Grimwood said the area has been hit three times in the last few days and complete sections of fencing are missing.

In one spot at least ten stakes have been “kicked out”.

Coun Grimwood said: “One of my biggest concerns is that they leave nails sticking out when they kick out the fence posts.”

He’s been busy trying to make the area safe for children who go there but says the issue will have to go to the parish council to see if moving the play area is the best solution long term.

Coun Grimwood is urging anyone who knows anything about the vandalism to contact police.

Police now hold Wednesday afternoon surgeries at The Curlew Centre, in Bridge Road, and PCSO Ben Harrington has put up notices in the park – which is behind the centre – to ask people to report damage to the police as soon as they see it.

Parish councillor Chris Brewis said “low level crime just goes on and on” in the village.

He said a lot of young people in the village are super but it seems some are not brought up to tell the difference between right and wrong.
