BURGLARS stole property worth thousands of pounds in daytime raids in Spalding’s Lilburn Drive and Chaldean Way.

One woman had a lucky escape as she returned home at 2.45pm on Friday and disturbed a man as he tried to break in.

Police are seeking witnesses to help trace the burglar, who is white, tall, has short blond hair and aged in his 20s. He carried a leather satchel and a balaclava.

A Lilburn Drive couple lost property worth £2,000 that afternoon when a burglar smashed glass in the kitchen door and climbed in to steal items including jewellery, a laptop and men’s clothing.

A woman resident said the intruder also tried to break in to her neighbour’s at about 3pm, but ran off because she was at home.

The resident, who asked not to be named, said: “My other next door neighbour was burgled in January. I just want to warn people that there are a lot of burglaries here at the moment.”

A Samsung 42-inch TV, Blu-ray player and gold jewellery were stolen from a nearby Chaldean Way home on Friday afternoon.
