Policeman stole drugs from police station

SPALDING magistrates sent a policeman to Lincoln Crown Court for sentence when he admitted stealing cannabis held in a police station storeroom for evidence.

Timothy Moorhouse (37) admitted tampering with police exhibits nine times to steal cannabis for himself – and one charge of possessing the class B drug at his home, Bluebell Walk, in Boston.

Rebecca Ritson, prosecuting, said the thefts came to light in November when an officer discovered some of the cannabis was missing from an evidence bag at Boston Police Station.

Other bags had been tampered with and inquiries, including fingerprint evidence, led to Moorhouse. A small amount of cannabis bush was found near his wardrobe when officers searched his home.

Miss Ritson said at least one court case had been affected by Moorhouse’s actions.

Rachel Stevens, mitigating, said the thefts were unsophisticated because Moorhouse wrote on the evidence bags in his own handwriting.
