POLICE were called when a drunken man shouted abuse at shop staff and customers, Spalding magistrates heard.

Andrew Plant (39), of Church Street, Market Deeping, told the court he has bipolar disorder – a form of depression – and a drink problem and has sought help for both.

Plant pleaded guilty to a public order offence and was conditionally discharged for six months. He must also pay £85 costs.

Prosecutor Daniel Paulson said Plant went into The Missing Curtain shop in St Paul’s Street, Stamford, at 2.30pm on August 12.

He was abusive to staff and customers and at one point shouted at a young boy, who burst into tears.

Plant said in the past others have asked him to seek help for his drink problem but he now realises that he needs help. He felt “embarrassed and ashamed” about the shop incident.
