AN 89-YEAR-OLD man was left virtually housebound after his “worthless” bicycle was stolen.

Eddie Aldridge, who has severe arthritis and is unable to walk very far, used the bike daily to to get out and about to the supermarket, doctor’s and to the local pub for a daily pint.

But after an outing on July 3, the bike was stolen from the garage at his home in Primrose Way, Spalding.

His daughter-in-law Daphne Aldridge said: “This has made me so cross. Eddie likes to be independent and he does really well at doing everything for himself.

“It was an old Shopper-style bike with a customised box on it for his shopping, so it’s not worth anything to anyone, but it was Eddie’s only way of getting about.”

Eddie has forked out for another to help regain his independence.
