The closure of the restaurant and bar at the South Holland Centre was a ‘disappointing shock’ to councillors.

Members of a task group set up to review the South Holland Centre say they had been led to believe Moninna’s Italian restaurant and the Platter & Pour cafe/cocktail bar would stay open beyond their six-month trial.

Senior councillors were briefed on the closure, but not the task group who reviewed the venue - and a meeting to discuss their report was delayed as a result.

An appendix to their report questions the ‘strength of the original business plan’ for the catering facilities given that a clash with other Italian eateries has since been seen as a reason for it not taking off.

It questioned why no ‘red flags’ had emerged for the bar and restaurant, saying this ‘suggests a lack of sufficient governance’.

The appendix adds: “One hopes that the future of catering will not be based on virtually no evidence when the centre needs every input that can be mustered.”
