A SOUTH Holland county councillor has taken on a new role as deputy leader of the authority.

Coun Eddy Poll, former leader of South Holland District Council who lives in Moulton Chapel, was announced as deputy leader of Lincolnshire County Council on Friday.

He succeeds former deputy Barry Singleton who died in the summer.

Coun Poll said: “Barry will certainly be a hard act to follow. He was passionate about his work, and his loss will be keenly felt.

“But I look forward to the challenges this new role will bring, and will do my best to follow Barry’s sterling example.”

Coun Poll will also continue in his role as executive member for economic development, overseeing a portfolio that includes regeneration, tourism and cultural services for the county authority.

Councillor Martin Hill, leader of the county council, added: “Eddy is taking on this role under sad circumstances. However, I’m sure he will be a worthy successor to Barry.

“Eddy has done some exceptional work in his executive position, playing a pivotal role in projects such as the Teal Park development and the planned improvements at Lincoln Castle.

“These are achievements that will benefit the county for years to come. I’m sure he’ll bring that same level of dedication to his new responsibilities.”

Coun Poll (pictured above) represents the Spalding East and Moulton county ward.

He was leader of the district council before losing his seat at the 2003 election.
