Spalding area councillor who works full-time is thanked for hard work after stepping down as deputy leader
Tribute has been paid after a councillor who works full-time has stepped down as deputy leader of South Holland District Council.
Coun Gary Taylor has resigned from the deputy leader post due to his work commitments but he remains a cabinet member.
Finance portfolio holder Peter Coupland has taken the role as second deputy leader and work alongside Coun Nick Worth.
District council leader Gary Porter said: “Gary has done a good job, particularly having to balance work with the politics.
“I am pleased Peter was up for the role and he has gained experience with the finance portfolio.”
Coun Taylor said that the increasing number of 9am meetings during the COVID crisis was impacting on his full-time job.
He said: “Since the COVID crisis there have more and more 9am meetings which was making it difficult.
“We need to see the council attract people of all ages and we need make more of an effort.
“I have enjoyed my time as deputy leader and I have managed to achieve a bit but no-one expected the COVID crisis.”
Coun Taylor is also hoping to continue with his role in the improvement plan for Spalding town centre.
