Councillor on Holbeach travellers’ site: ‘Spirit of goodwill should now prevail’

Have your say

A “SPIRIT of goodwill” should prevail now that travellers in Holbeach have moved to their new site, according to South Holland district councillor Christine Lawton.

Coun Lawton, who is portfolio holder housing landlord, said district councillors will breathe a sigh of relief now that the move from Cranmore Lane to Rose View Drive, off the A151/A17 link road, has been completed.

Coun Lawton, who took over the portfolio following the May election, said: “It has been a long, drawn-out process and everyone will be pleased that it has moved on.

“This has given the travellers a safe, acceptable site and residents are assured that the old site will be protected as much as possible so it cannot be misused.

“Everyone was keen to get this done and the new site looks very settled. Once the foliage has grown it won’t look quite so stark.

“I am relieved and optimistic that a spirit of goodwill should now prevail.”
