People in Bourne and the Deepings are being urged to keep their personal details updated if they want to continue getting any council tax discounts.
South Kesteven District Council gives more than 19,500 households 25 per cent off their council tax bills when there is only one adult living at an address in the area.

But the council will soon be comparing its council tax records with other databases to find cases where more than one adult is living at an address and a discount is still being claimed.
Richard Wyles, the council’s corporate finance manager, said: “We believe most council tax discounts are claimed honestly and legitimately, but we know there are times when a householder’s circumstances change and they forget to tell us their eligibility to a discount should be ended.
“However, it is a statutory requirement for council tax payers to tell us within 28 days if they think they should no longer qualify for a discount.
“As the council tax scheme is a form of tax, we are obliged to amend any records we find to be incorrect, back to the date of the change.
“This means that householders do not benefit from withholding information from us and it could mean some households will find they have a considerable amount of council tax arrears to pay.
“If you receive a discount you think you should not receive, this is your final chance to tell us before we contact you.”
