South Holland District Council issues statement following meeting in Spalding's Wygate Park over 5G mast
South Holland District Council says a staff member was put in a 'difficult position' following a meeting with residents earlier today.
The council has put out a statement after a number of residents in the Wygate Park area attended an outdoor meeting with a planner to discuss the 5G mast in the Claudette Avenue area.
A statement issued: "On Friday, March 26, a junior member of staff from South Holland District Council had agreed to meet a resident privately to discuss a planning matter. The meeting was due to take place in an open space and with appropriate social distancing measures. A councillor also requested to be present at that meeting.
"Sadly, during these discussion, a number of other residents joined the meeting along with another councillor.
"We are disappointed that a junior member of staff was put in this difficult and potentially harmful position, despite the staff member wearing appropriate face covering at all times and trying their best to maintain social distancing.
"Following this incident we will revisit our protocols around meeting members of public and re-iterate responsibilities not only to employees and members of the council but the wider community."
