Moulton Chapel Football Club are looking for new members
Whether you can bend it like Beckham or you’ve never kicked a ball before, it doesn’t matter to Moulton Chapel Football Club.
Coaches at the club are looking for new members to join the Under 12 girls team - and all levels of experience are welcomed.
Assistant manager Steve Forsyth says that the aim of the game is to encourage young girls to have a go at football because it’s certainly not just a game for boys.
He said: “For us, it’s all about equal opportunities and we don’t turn anyone away.
“It’s not just football, we also teach the girls about core values and how to work together too.
“Some of the girls who join us haven’t even really been able to kick a ball about because maybe at school the boys won’t let them join in.
“Our aim is to take them from nothing and to push them up - it’s really good for them to get involved.”
The current Under 12 girls team is made up of 12 members but Steve is hoping that they can bring a few more girls on board to join in the fun, especially considering the rise in public interest in women’s football teams, with former England and Arsenal player Alex Scott even appearing on Strictly Come Dancing
He said: “We really want to add at least another five girls to the squad really.
“When it comes to match day, with the size of the pitch and the size of the goals the girls can get tired pretty quickly, so we need some extra bodies.
The children we’ve got are fantastic and they even come to training when it’s raining and cold - they
really look forward to it.
“They’re just as good as the boys!”
The team is relatively new and, due to COVID-19, they have been unable to play as much as they would have done usually.
However, games are
lined up and training sessions are in full flow now that restrictions have been eased.
Steve added: “This team has played for two seasons, at first as Under 11s and now as Under 12s, but due to everything we are
going through with COVID they haven’t been able to play a full season this time round.
“We’re back to training and playing matches now though and I just hope we can continue like this and that the Government doesn’t change it.”
The team is looking for girls in year 6 and 7 to join, whether they are complete beginners to established footballers.
Training takes place on Thursday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm in Moulton Chapel and all coaches have DBS clearance and are FA affiliated.
