Coronavirus: South Holland patients will have routine surgery postponed

The trust that runs Boston's Pilgrim Hospital is postponing all routine surgery from tomorrow.

The routine operations are elective - ones that patients have chosen to have - and do not include cancer surgery and other clinically urgent cases.

Earlier today it was revealed two patients with COVID-19 are being treated at Pilgrim while a third is in hospital in Lincoln.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) the postponement of the operations comes "as part of our response to the current COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak, enabling hospitals to free up staff to care for patients in other areas".

The step will also affect patients expecting to have surgery in Grantham or Lincoln hospitals.

A spokesperson for the trust said: "All affected patients will be contacted directly to inform them of the cancellation."
