Bakkavor is excited to celebrate our Contribution to the Community award at the Spalding Education Awards
Students will be rewarded for their selflessness and hard work through our Contribution to the Community award this year.
Sponsored by food company Bakkavor, this award looks for activities, programmes and initiatives which have demonstrated a real commitment to local neighbourhoods throughout South Holland.
It always proves to be a popular category - particularly last year, when hard-working youngsters continued to help others in need despite the challenges faced by the pandemic and its restrictions.
Spalding High School’s Abi Parks, Charlotte Pool, Emily Samsone and Paige Burton were named our winners last year after their work as part of the Covid Teen Heroes initiative.
They helped with the creation of ear savers and scrubs for NHS staff, raised funds through sporting activities and baking, and even learned to communicate through sign language.
Daisy Darley, a Year 10 student at Spalding High School, and Oakley and Edith Bateman were named our runners-up.
A spokesperson for the award’s sponsors said: “Bakkavor is a major employer in the Lincolnshire area with more than 5,000 people working across five locations in the county - Boston, Bourne, Holbeach St Marks, Spalding and Sutton Bridge.
“We believe as a responsible employer we should support events which recognise the great people and great work being carried out in our local communities.
“We are therefore delighted to sponsor the 2022 Spalding Guardian/Lincolnshire Free Press Education Awards and the category of Contribution to the Community.
“We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone good luck at this year’s awards.”
Bakkavor has been among the sponsors at the awards for a number of years.
The company has mixed up its chosen category as well - back in 2018, for example, it helped to name our Pre-School Staff Award.
This year’s Education Awards will take place on Thursday, July 7, at Springfields Events and Conference Centre in Spalding.
Categories which join the Contribution to the Community include primary and secondary schools of the year.
Inspirational teachers at both primary and secondary schools will be honoured - as will their students.
Additionally, outstanding sporting achievements and environmental champions will be rewarded.
If you would like to nominate any worthy candidates or groups for the awards, you can do so at www.spaldingeducationawards.co.uk
Finalists will be presented with three free tickets to attend the ceremony, with additional seats available for £10 each.
