Darren Maddison and Helen Wright are still firmly committed to community youth theatre in Spalding.

While they are handing over the day-to-day running of the classes to other people, Darren says: “We will still be here and look into funding opportunities so we can get more young people to access the facilities here.”

‘Here’ is The Umbrella in Westlode Street, where the youth club will continue to be run.

It’s also where Limelight holds regular classes in acting, singing and dancing, leading to three performances a year – music shows and summer and Christmas performances involving students from the whole academy.

However, Darren and Helen say the young people who take part in the classes learn far more important lessons than acting, singing and dancing.

Darren, who has done musicals, worked in the West End and on European tours, says: “They are making friends, building confidence and developing life skills and social skills as well.

“We work towards performances but they develop life skills as they put them on.”
