Our weekly update of big events taking place on stage and on screen.

It must be Cinderella’s year at the South Holland Centre.

It all started back in December with our 2014 annual pantomime. Those of you who saw it will remember the glorious sparkly horse and carriage flying Cinders off to the ball.

Then, this week we are screening the new Disney Cinderella movie starring Lily James, Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter. Critics were delighted that director Kenneth Branagh made the most of the traditional magic of the story in his retelling of the classic fairytale. With a U certificate, the film is aimed at the whole family; screenings start tomorrow and run through to Saturday.

And if you are a lover of live classical ballet, be sure to book your carriage for Saturday, June 6 when Ballet Cymru bring their version of the Cinderella rags to riches tale to the centre’s main stage.

Spalding audiences have enjoyed several of this professional company’s touring productions over the years and we are delighted to welcome them back for another early summer live ballet treat. The company prides itself on bringing imagination and colour to its shows. For Cinderella, this includes a commission for award-winning composer Jack White to write new music, and a fun element being provided by Citrus Arts who have worked on some circus effects within the performance – conjuring up a lovely world of wonder and magic.

With their usual high standard of choreography and stunning costumes, this dance version of Cinderella is a must see for ballet fans young and old. Tickets are £14.50, £13.50 conc or £48 for a family ticket from the Box Office 01775 764777 or online at The performance starts at 7pm, and with a running time of just over an hour and a half, you are sure to be safely home before midnight!
