THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK: By Fr Jonathan Sibley, Long Sutton St Mary’s

Over the last week, thousands of people of all ages and from across the country will have come through the doors of St Mary’s Long Sutton to enjoy the flower festival – the Colour Wheel.

Some will be rushing, some will be taking their time, a lot are coming back as regular visitors.

All are wowed by the skill of the flower arrangers. The wow is what takes us to the Disciples on that first Ascension day. Forty days after Easter the risen Jesus is transformed and he ascends to heaven as Son of God to be with his Father.

The wow is actually the hope of Jesus’ call to us, each one of us individually. You and I, each one of us, every one of us, whether we like it or not, has a relationship with the Lord. He is not far from any one of us.

Humans are naturally religious and inclined to worship, we ‘grope for him’ and if we don’t find him we make him from gold and anything else we can find.

The risen Jesus Christ is very close and he ascended just so you and I can find him.
