An animal charity has renewed its appeal to cat owners in South Holland to have their pets treated for just £10.

So far, seven cats have been neutered under the discount scheme offered by Peterborough-based charity Spaywatch which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.

The special offer, which runs for the next two months, is aimed at reducing the number of unwanted cats that are born in South Holland and end up as strays in areas, such as Lutton Marsh.

Spaywatch trustee Jane Huggins said: “We are shocked by the large colonies of cats that are living wild, especially in Lincolnshire, and when these cats become unwell they usually don’t see a vet or receive any kind of basic treatment. Still today, with all the evidence to support neutering, there remains a culture of neglect amongst many cat owners so we must all try to educate people as to the benefits of neutering.”
