CABINET CALL: By South Holland Council cabinet member Coun Sally Slade
Regular users of SHDC’s website may have noticed some changes that have been made recently, aimed at making it easier to use for all sectors of the local populace.
We want the website to be accessible to as many people as possible including those who are blind or have difficulty reading website text.
Our accessibility upgrades allow users to have website text read out by their computer, change the font and size of the text and alter the page background colour.
South Holland is, of course, home to people from several different countries and to recognise this fact, the website can now be translated into different languages.
These latest updates are the first of several scheduled to take place throughout 2017, so watch this space.
And don’t just take my word for it, log on to www.sholland.gov.uk and click on ‘Accessibility’ at the top of the page, which will present you with a list of the new options.
• On a separate note, I’d like to remind everyone of the forthcoming Lincolnshire County Council elections which take place on May 4.
Following a recent boundary review, Lincolnshire County Council will now have 70 councillors who make county-wide decisions (e.g on education and social services).
South Holland has nine seats being contested: Crowland; Donington Rural; Holbeach; Holbeach Rural; Spalding East; Spalding Elloe; Spalding South; Spalding West and The Suttons.
Candidates wishing to stand in the elections have until 4pm on April 4 to submit their nomination forms and, shortly after the deadline, a list of the candidates standing will be published on SHDC’s website.
As with any election, I would urge all residents to ensure they are registered to vote and have their say.
If you’re not registered, the deadline to do so is April 13. You can register online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote or call 0333 1031928.
