Last summer the Chamber of Commerce took over the operational responsibility for the Spalding ShopWatch scheme.

Funds were made available to buy radios, rather than rent them, which halved the weekly cost to our members.

There are now 30 radios in use in retail outlets in Spalding.

Members log on each morning with the CCTV operators.

If there is an incident on any of our members’ premises it can be broadcast over the radio, this alerts the CCTV operator who may be able to capture the incident or the offender on tape, which could be used as evidence should it go to court.

It also alerts other members of the scheme who may be able to offer assistance, particularly if the incident is likely to involve violence or anti-social behaviour.

In the future we may expand the scheme to cover Holbeach and are hopeful that the Parish Council will reconsider their decision not to support CCTV as ShopWatch and CCTV work well together.
