Hockey club's fund-raiser for new pitch

Long Sutton Hockey Club members and the town's fire crew will be ready with their sponges and chamois leathers on Saturday, June 9.

Motorists are asked to bring their grubby vehicles to Market Place, Long Sutton, where they will be made as clean as a new pin at a charity car wash.

Following the recent failure of plans to build housing on part of the sports club's land after a historic caveat was invoked, the fund-raising event is being held to raise money towards replacing the club pitch's Astroturf playing surface.

The new playing surface will cost around £250,000 and the car washers are sharing their donations with the Fire Brigade Benevolent Fund.

The hockey club has formed a fund-raising committee to organise a variety of events - club members will be packing bags for shoppers at Tesco in Holbeach on Saturday, June 23, and there are also plans for a sponsored bike ride.

Support from the local community and businesses would be very welcome and the club is also hoping to get the backing of South Holland District Council for their plans.
