Fisheries officer asks for help in tackling illegal fishing to protect wildlife in Spalding after 80ft gill net is found

Calls have been made to help protect wildlife in Spalding by reporting illegal fishing after the discovery of an 80ft net.

The Environment Agency’s Fisheries Teamsay this is the second net they have recovered from the town’s waterways in the last 18 months.

The gill net had been stretched across the Coronation Channel, near the old railway bridge, and could have been a hazard to protected species like otters and wildfowl.
