South Holland pubs with high food hygiene ratings
Christmas dinner is generally one of the most important events for South Holland families so people are being advised to do their research before booking that important meal.
South Holland District Council (SHDC) is advising anyone planning a Christmas meal to "look before you book" by researching the food hygiene rating of potential venues before deciding to eat there.
No businesses within the district have the lowest ranking and 78 per cent of pubs, restaurants and eateries have the top ranking of five stars.
Among those with the top five ranking are: The Chequers in Weston, Mermaid in Surfleet and Spalding's The Moorings.
The district council is thrilled with the area's high ratings - which are above the national average.
A spokesman said: "There’s currently 962 food businesses registered in South Holland. Food hygiene ratings remain very high: 98.9 per cent are rated at three or above. We currently have no zero-rated food premises and we’ve one premises rated one and six with a rating of two.
"SHDC continues to work with those businesses with a rating of two or less in order to ensure they improve to the required standard.
"One restaurant is receiving support from EHC UK with on-site food hygiene training and assistance with their food safety management systems as part of the Improving your food hygiene rating support service.
"We pride ourselves on our high ratings which is above the national average. Over the last two years, it’s increased slightly and this is the highest it’s ever been."
