Looking forward to working off the Christmas excess

By Spalding Today Columnist

With the third straight meal of Christmas Day leftovers settling in many of your stomachs and only the least popular chocolates hiding at the bottom of the sharing tubs in living rooms across the district, many people’s minds will now begin to shift to 2019 and their resolutions and goals for the new year.

Healthier living and increasing how much we exercise always ranks highly on these lists and at South Holland District Council, we are committed to helping create a more active, happy and healthy district wherever we can.

One exciting recent development on this front many of you will have seen was the decision earlier this month to award our new leisure management contract to nationally-recognised provider Parkwood Leisure.

This five-year contract starts in March and will see Parkwood take over the management and operation of Castle Sports Complex and Pool in Spalding and Peele Leisure Centre in Long Sutton.

My family and I are regular users of Castle and know how important it is that the services and facilities our residents are provided with are of the strongest quality, while showing signs of development and offering a wide range of opportunities.

Parkwood, who have a rich experience of managing similar facilities throughout England and Wales, showed a real passion for meeting and even exceeding these needs throughout the discussions we have had, showing a commitment to providing an improved leisure offer for the district, supporting wide-reaching health improvements across the district and investing in the facilities we have.

The current provider, 1Life, has given 20 years of service to managing the facilities for which we are all thankful, but we are also now excited to see what this new chapter will bring. Parkwood is looking to build confidence in the facilities and encourage as many residents as possible to take full advantage of them, through an exciting programme of leisure activities and being pro-active to spread awareness of offers and opportunities with the community.

For now, we are working hard with Parkwood to make our partnership gives the best possible outcomes for them, ourselves, and most importantly for all of you, the residents of South Holland.

I hope that, like me, you are excited to see developments unfold from March and that for those of you who are making resolutions, we can provide you with the resources and opportunities which will allow you to stick to them into 2019 and beyond.

I would like to wish you all a happy new year!
