He may have reached 70, but Robin Sparrow had no thoughts of retiring.

After 45 years in the machinery sales business, Robin wasn’t prepared to call it a day, and did what any other self-respecting pensioner would do; he set up his own business.

Robin is confident he can make a success of the new company, Arrow of Bourne – and with good reason.

The Lincolnshire-based entrepreneur was top-selling salesman at his previous employer.

Arrow of Bourne will offer flail mower/collectors, compact tractor-mounted hedge cutters and other machinery, focusing on the amenity and leisure markets.

He will be launching the business tomorrow at Agri-Expo, a major South East agricultural show, and is looking forward to a new challenge at a time when others would be looking forward to putting their feet up.

“After working in the business for more than 45 years I decided it was time to put my knowledge to good use by working for me instead of for other people,” he explained. With a lifetime’s experience working for well-known companies such as Spearhead and Ryetec, Robin has sourced a range of quality machinery that originates in Italy and will be sold under the new Arrow brand.

Arrow’s range of flail mower/collectors includes a heavy duty model designed to clear scrub and bracken and a lighter version that is ideal for cutting, scarifying and collecting grass and leaves in amenity areas, golf courses and sports fields.

Arrow also offers a number of different hedge cutters to fit compact tractors and a chipper/spreader from France.

“I will be supplying my products through the UK dealer network, not direct to the end user, and I am looking forward to speaking to potential partners,” Robin said.

“Launching my own brand and setting up my own business has been an interesting challenge and I am determined to make it work.”
