Just over 100 years of fitting sons, dads and grandads with high fashion is to end for a Spalding shop next month.
Nigel Mann (62) and his wife Joy are just five weeks away from the last-ever sale at Mann and Son in Hall Place, Spalding, as the end of an era for shopping in the town draws near.
We’re extremely happy to be retiring and starting our new venture, but we’re very, very sad to be shutting the shopNigel Mann (62), Mann and Son, Spalding
But the couple are determined to go out with a flourish by holding a “huge retirement sale”, starting today, when loyal customers can say “goodbye” and pay ten per cent less for their goods.
Nigel said: “It’s with very mixed feelings that we’ll finally be closing the door on Mann and Son on Saturday, June 25.
“We’re extremely happy to be retiring and starting our new venture in the form of dealing in classic cars and bikes.
“But we’re very, very sad to be shutting the shop and I can remember when my father Jack handed over the keys and said: ‘it’s all yours to do as you will’.
“It would have been lovely to see the business continue in the same vein.
“Nevertheless, I think that Spalding, from a business point of view, is very, very strong.”
The future for Nigel and Joy, who have a son and daughter, holds a mixture of long overdue holidays and more time for involvement in Spalding and East Elloe Classic Car Club.
“Our son and daughter are both away and doing other things, so retirement and selling the property was the only option,” Nigel said.
“But equally, we’re happy to be moving on to other things after June 25.”
