CUT PRICE retailer B&M Bargains will open in the former Spalding Co-op store on Thursday, creating 20 jobs.
The discount chain will take on a 12,000sq ft store inside the Winsover Centre in Winsover Road that was left empty when Lincolnshire Co-op pulled out its home, food and coffee stores in February.
B&M says that it has been looking to move into the town for a long time and that this store will form the latest part of its rapid expansion, having moved from a total of 20 stores four years ago to 240 now.
B&M operations director Carl Allen said: “We have been waiting for an opportunity in Spalding for three years, and are delighted to have secured this site.
“What is amazing about our growth is that is has been secured just through word of mouth.
“We are finding that simply opening the doors is sufficient for a store to attract on average 10,000 shoppers every week. The secret to this is very simple – we sell branded product at discounted prices.”
The Post Office has also moved out of the middle of the new B&M store – taking the short trip to 7a Winsover Road.
B&M Bargains was named as one of the top 100 fastest growing private companies in the UK by the Sunday Times and in the past two years has opened a store per week.
The store sells food, toiletries and household goods as well as soft furnishings, toys, homewares and seasonal goods.
