Shop is a gift for Pinchbeck couples
Supposing you got the chance to run your favourite shop? Supposing it came up for sale and you had the chance to BUY your favourite shop?
Well, that just what Pinchbeck couple Kayleigh and Chris Ayres decided to do when Spalding furniture and gift shop Pearl & Ruby came onto the market.
Together with friends Sarah and Steve Corneck, the couple decided to change track and take over the Aladdin's Cave of fabulous furniture, delightful decor and gorgeous gifts in Red Lion Street and make it their own.
Having spent the previous 14 years working as a dental nurse and having recently had her third child, Kayleigh (32) couldn't resist the opportunity to take over the shop when the chance arose.
"They used to run crafting workshops which I attended and my husband told me it had been put up for sale and I said 'I think we could do that' and he replied "I think we could!". I had not long had a baby and of all the times we could have started something new!
"I was planning to go back to work as a dental nurse and really enjoyed doing it, it's not as though I was looking to leave, but then this opportunity came up."
Kayleigh is very much front of house, at the shop every day, while Chris (34) is behind the scenes, looking after the numbers and the paperwork.
"The shop already had a lovely reputation and people come all over to visit, so we don't want to change it that much - I loved it how it was! But obviously, we like different things and I am introducing some jewellery and more furniture 'one-offs'.
"We're continuing the workshops such as crochet and folk art which were so successful and hoping to add some more, such as needlefelting, mosaics, silversmithing and stained glass."
