Sports presenter Jake Humphrey praises Lincolnshire Police and fire crews for their assistance following horror crash yesterday

BT Sports presenter Jake Humphrey has tweeted his thanks to Lincolnshire Police and fire crews from Donington after they attended a horrific crash he was involved in yesterday.

He was reportedly driving his 4x4 home on the A17 near East Heckington in the early hours of Wednesday, after hosting Blackburn's FA Cup clash with Newcastle, when the accident happened.

Pictures he shared on Twitter showed the extent of damage to his vehicle but he said he escaped with only minor injuries.

He tweeted: "Rather eventful journey home from Blackburn last night. Thankfully only a few bumps and bruises.

"I just want to call out to the Lincolnshire Police, the brilliant local fire service...and the lovely family in East Heckington who got the kettle on. All great, kind folk. Thanks."

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called out at 1.52am on Wednesday, January 16, to an RTC (Road Traffic Collision) on the A17 involving a single vehicle.

"A crew from Donington attended and used absorbent granules on an oil spill and made the vehicle and road safe."

A spokesperson from Lincolnshire Police added: "At 1.39am on January 16, we received a report that a car had gone into the central reservation on the A17at East Heckington. The collision involved a Mercedes Benz.

"Two people received minor injuries."
