Sir Hans Sloane, an Irish born British physician, naturalist and collector, is the subject for Spalding Gentlemen’s Society’s first lecture of 2016.

It’s at Spalding Grammar School on Friday (8pm, entry £2) with Alice Marples and Victoria Pickering, PhD students at the British Museum.

Notable for bequeathing his collection to the nation, thus providing the foundation of the British Museum, the lecture will be on the man, his collection, and communities of natural knowledge in the early 18th century.
