We had the chance to speak to Simon Beardsley from Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce, Phil Scarlett who is the president of the Spalding and District Chamber as well as vice-president David Norton.
They explained the role of Chamber and its origins in France; they also spoke of the role it plays in creating a unified local business voice when dealing with local authorities and the media.
Whilst Simon is based at County HQ in Lincoln he is closely involved with many local Chambers and is a keen advocate of any business initiative designed to increase footfall in local towns. Lincolnshire Chamber is a keen supporter of Business Improvement Districts and it was this that brought Chamber to prominence when debating the recent, unsuccessful, Spalding BID five years ago.
Phil and David explained the work of local Chamber and the regular meetings at Broad Street Business Centre which any local business is invited to attend. It was Spalding Chamber that organised last year’s Christmas Light Switch and commissioned new Christmas lights for the town.
All underlined the role that they feel Chamber can play in providing a unifying business voice within our town, they are keen supporters of Spalding in Bloom which brightens up our town in Summer, and they are always keen to recruit new members.
