A Spalding off-licence has been raided in what appears to be a joint operation between police and trading standards officers.
It happpened at Winsover Off-Licence and Mini-Market between 1pm and 2.30pm, with unconfirmed reports that cigarette packets were seized and then loaded into vans.
But a South Holland District Council spokesman said that he was unable to give details of the precise nature of the operation at this stage.
The spokesman said: “We are aware of today’s operation which was led by Lincolnshire Trading Standards.
“Obviously, we support the initiative as part of our Stamp it Out campaign.
Launched in October, Stamp It Out sees officers from the district council’s licensing Team working alongside Lincolnshire Police and Lincolnshire Trading Standards in visiting shops and off-licences selling alcohol and tobacco in the run-up to Christmas.
The main aim is to check for smuggled alcohol on excise duty has been paid, thereby undercutting legitimate businesses and defrauding the Government out of cash for vital services.
Officers also check that premises are complying with their licensing conditions, offering guidance to ensure that operators are working in a responsible and legally compliant manner.
