Members of a Spalding boxing club are punching the air in celebration after receiving a hand out from the Smile Fund.
The money, which came out of Spalding and District Round Table’s £10,000 pot for good causes, will go into the coffers at the boxing club in Cradge Bank to enable it to keep up the good work it does with young people.
It was given £402 – a pound for every person who attended the Round Table’s boxing event iin February.
Matt Clark, who handed over the money on behalf of the Round Table, said: “The boxing club can use the money to improve its equipment or just pay for general costs.
“It is a really good boxing club – it ticks all the Round Table Smile Fund boxes and it is in line with our boxing event.
“They deal with so many young people and give them something to do other than go out and get in trouble and we support them through and through.”
Spalding Boxing Club is the latest recipients of cash from the Round Table Smile Fund.
Applications have been flooding in over the past few months from groups, schools. clubs and individuals.
The purpose for the money has been extremely wide and varied – from a mum wanting to buy a new bed for her son to a walking group wanting to hire a coach for a day trip.
The application process has changed slightly, but it’s still easy to do. See any Spalding Guardian for details.
