Bourne student Robert McAndrew (15) – above – is one of two athletes from the county to have been selected to compete at the 2016 School Games.

The School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes, and Robert will represent the Para-Cycling team.

The Bourne Grammar School student will be one of 1,600 athletes competing across 12 sports at the event, seven of which include disability disciplines.

Eleven of the events will take place at Loughborough University, while the swimmers will be competing elsewhere because of renovations to Loughborough’s own state-of-the-art swimming pool – at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre’s Olympic-sized pool in Sheffield.

The four-day spectacular is supported by National Lottery funding from Sport England and delivered by the Youth Sport Trust.

The young athletes will be following in the footsteps of some of Britain’s biggest sporting stars.
