BLOGGING mum Carol Smith is celebrating after winning a category in the MAD Blog Awards.

Carol’s winning blog about her struggles with depression were written on her blog and were timed to coincide with Depression Awareness Week.

Her personal diary of her struggle to find motivation to get dressed in the morning and difficulties in sleeping was overall winner in the Best MAD Blog Post of the Year.

This is the second annual awards for the British parent blogging community and the second time Carol, who is mother to two-year-old Megan and who lives with partner James in Gamlyn Close, Spalding, has reached the finals.

The blogs began when Megan was 12 weeks old and Carol, who had only recently moved to the area, knew no-one and so formed an online community of friends.

Fourteen winners were chosen by a public vote and more than 50,000 nominations and votes were submitted in this year’s awards, although just 75 made it through to become finalists.

Tamsin Kelly from awards’ sponsor Parentdish said: “This has been a tremendous achievement by everyone involved, and shows the vital role that blogs continue to play in parents’ lives.”
