SEEING a tractor up close and personal was one of the biggest surprises for many of the visitors to Red House Farm at Gedney Marsh.

The farm welcomed about 200 people to its Open Farm Sunday, and farm manager Andy Blair says many of them commented on both the size and complexity of farm equipment, in particular the leek rig, the machinery used for harvesting leeks.

“People had seen it from the road but not appreciated how large and complicated it is and for a lot of people that was the most interesting part of the day,” said Andy.

However, dozens of other people enjoyed trailer rides around the farm, scaregrow-building activities, and hearing about the work of a large farm.

Andy added: “We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the visitors seemed to enjoy themselves as well so we definitely regard it as being a success.”
