Police warn of call blocking scam where victims pay out nearly £150 for devices that do not work

People in South Holland are being warned not to fall for a call blocking scam involving faulty devices.

The scam sees households receive offers from companies to block nuisance calls, in return for an annual charge of £149.

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman claimed that, in some cases, "we are also seeing recurring transactions being taken monthly", with payment being asked for over the telephone.

The spokesman said: "A call blocking device may then be sent to you in the post.

"However, these devices do not work."

The scam is an attempt to tempt people away from free call blocking services, telephone preference scheme and telephones with in-built call blockers.

Anyone with information about the call blocking scam should call 101.
