A regular column from South Holland Centre in Spalding.
Over the course of his career, Jon Boden has become one of the most outstanding performers of traditional music of his generation.
It’s a reputation which has previously seen him performing on the South Holland Centre main stage and at Spalding Folk Club as part of award-winning folk duo ‘Spiers and Boden’.
But he is best known as the main arranger and lead singer of the highly successful and exuberant folk big band ‘Bellowhead’.
Over the years, Bellowhead have won numerous BBC Folk Awards, achieved a quarter of a million album sales, and played to capacity crowds at hundreds of venues and festivals, but in 2015 Jon Boden announced that he wanted to move on.
So, after embarking on their ‘sell-out’ Farewell tour, Bellowhead bowed out with an emotional and brilliant final show on May 1, 2016.
So how does Jon Boden follow that?
“I considered doing nothing for a while,” he said, “but that didn’t work out.
“So I’m now very pleased to be able to announce a UK solo tour in November.
“It’ll just be me on stage – voice, fiddle, guitar, concertina, stomp box – and I’ll be playing a variety of traditional material, including a few Bellowhead favourites, alongside my own songs from Painted Lady and Songs from the Floodplain albums.
“I’ve also got a few new tracks on the go.”
It’s safe to say that we are utterly delighted to welcome Jon Boden back to the South Holland Centre, and as the only venue in the area to secure a date on his first solo tour, we are anticipating a high demand.
The date is Saturday, November 19 and tickets are on sale now.
