Holbeach area care home created a pub experience for their residents
Dedicated staff at a care home worked hard to create a pub experience for their residents.
A number of residents at Beech Lodge Care and Nursing Home in Holbeach St Johns told staff that they would love to go to the pub under its Make a Wish initiative.
Unfortunately, this is not possible at the moment but staff pulled out all of the stops to create a special experience to make this wish come true.
Staff had set up a bar area within the home and also poured drinks for residents who also tucked into a tasty traditional pub lunch menu for the day.
Residents had a mouth-watering choice of beer-battered cod with chunky chips, hand-carved gammon hamor homemade steak and stilton burger, with cheddar cheese and smoked back bacon. For dessert there was a choice of strawberry meringue, lemon meringue pie, black cherry cheesecake or jam sponge and custard.
Residents also enjoyed playing games of pool and dominoes.
Home manager Karen Atillo has praised her team for making huge efforts to make a difference to their residents.
She said: “Due to the current coronavirus pandemic we can’t take residents out to the pub so we decided to bring the pub to them.We managed to borrow some pub themed accessories from our sister care home in Spalding and our Wellbeing Team came up with a range of pub games for everyone to enjoy.
“We had such an enjoyable day and it was lovely to see everyone smiling and joining in with the fun.”
Family members have been delighted with the pub day.
One relativecommented on the home’s social media page:“This is a brilliant idea, their faces say it all, I have never seen so many smiles in one place. Keep it up and let’s have more of them!”
Another person said, “How lovely is this, you put an enormous amount of effort in to create a homely atmosphere”.
