Banned Spalding driver drove newly bought car

By Spalding Reporter

A Spalding man, who bought a car and drove it home despite being banned from driving, has received an additional six months ban and a fine of almost £500.

Ignas Bagdonas (28), of Banks Avenue, admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance when he appeared before magistrates at Boston.

The court heard that Bagdonas was seen driving the VW Passat in Spalding Road, Boston at 11.25pm on February 2, just after he had bought the car and was driving it home.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said Bagdonas had been disqualified from driving for a year in March 2018 for failing to provide a specimen of breath.

In mitigation, Beris Brickles said Bagdonas had bought the car to do work on it for when he got his licence back and was driving it home, although he did know he was banned from driving.

After hearing that neither unpaid work nor a curfew was suitable for him, the magistrates fined Bagdonas a total of £483 with an additional £123 in costs and charges and disqualified him for an additional six months until September.
