More than £60,000 is available to be spent on a new bandstand for Ayscoughfee Gardens in Spalding.

But work on the outdoor performance space means there will is nothing left at the moment to complete two other projects on Spalding Town Forum’s list – refurbishment of the aviary at Ayscoughfee Hall and a £17,000-plus overhaul of the main gates at Sir Halley Stewart Field in Winfrey Avenue.

Forum chairman Coun George Aley said there is enough money in the Section 106 fund for the bandstand and “minor repairs” to the aviary although he’s hopeful that Lottery funding could come to Ayscoughfee with the hall having its listing upgraded from II to I.

He said the upgrade “could give us an opportunity of possible Lottery monies” for Ayscoughfee and the forum would have to wait and see about further monies to “look at other projects we hope to do”.

News of the Section 106 funds left – from a pot created when Springfields Retail Outlet was developed – was revealed on Thursday after Coun Aley attended a meeting of South Holland District Council’s performance monitoring panel the previous evening.
